Aberdeen UK Platform Awards Dinner
in association with our media partners - Professional Adviser
28 September 2010 - The London Marriott Grosvenor Square

This year the Aberdeen UK Platform Awards dinner not only celebrated a great year of success and achievement for the industry, but also the first decade of platforms. It is extraordinary to recall that a mere 10 years ago, few had even heard of investment platforms. We were delighted to celebrate this with an award for the personality of the decade, voted for by the full panel of judges. As to the winner, one eminent adviser judge responded, “That one’s easy – its Malcolm Murray”; and the vast majority agreed.

We also achieved success in a very different way. This year, we selected a single charity, Help for Heroes. This was in honour of Richard Hollington, the 300th British solder killed in Afghanistan and each of the other 299. The organisers and Aberdeen Asset Management agreed to match the amount donated by guests. The table collection was a staggering £4,700. Thus, the total amount to be donated to Help for Heroes is £14,100.

This was in no small way due to our wonderful host for the evening, Kate Silverton. Kate showed a moving video of her time with British troops in Afghanistan.

Previous winners and first timers shared the awards.

Whilst Standard once again won Platform of the Year, Transact was voted the best Open Architecture Wrap Platform and Best Platform for Adviser Service, an important new award, which we believe will be much coveted.

As for advisers, Lee Robertson and his excellent team at Investment Quorum, celebrated retaining the award for best adviser practice AND their tenth birthday in the same week, whilst Chartwell, who have launched a brand new proposition powered by the much favoured IFDL platform, won the best adviser business award for larger adviser firms.

The platform industry can look forward to the next decade with great confidence on the one hand, but in the knowledge that continued change will pose great challenges on the other. We look forward to an even better awards dinner in 2011.
